Homer, Alaska has a population of about 5,000 (4,000 in city limits of Homer and 1,000 in surrounding area) and is located on the North shore of Kachemak Bay on the southwestern Kenai Peninsula . It is 226 road miles from Anchorage , 40 minutes by air.
Homer offers access via scheduled air service, state ferry and the Sterling Highway . You can get to Homer via charter airplane and boat, car rental, taxi; bus service to and from Anchorage . View a bird rookery, explore remote beaches teeming with intertidal life (tide dependent), hike a forest nature trail. Try your hand at Kayaking with one of the many outfitters in the area.
